RESPONSIBILITY AND VALUES
Small steps – big impact
We have developed our sustainability over the past few years, because nature and the environment are our lifeblood. As a result of our hard work and perseverance, we were awarded the Green Key certificate and the STF (Sustainable Travel Finland) label in the summer of 2023. We want to set an example for other operators in the region and be a responsible choice for customers.
GREEN KEY JA STF
- In the summer of 2023, we were awarded the Green Key environmental certificate and the STF (Sustainable Travel Finland) label for our outstanding work on sustainability.
- The criteria for the certificate include requirements related to carbon footprint reduction, increasing of social benefits and supporting the local economy.
- We are committed to preventing and reducing the environmental impact from our operations and are actively working to promote sustainability by developing our operations and setting new annual targets.
LOCALLY PRODUCED
- By using local food, we reduce emissions from food transport and thus contribute to sustainable development. Locally produced food uses less energy and water, thus reducing our carbon footprint.
- There are many local and small producers in our area, whose delicacies are also served at Lehmonkärki. By buying local food, we support local farmers, small businesses and food producers, contributing to the local economy and employment.
- By using local food, we enable an authentic local taste experience that reflects the unique flavour and food traditions of the region.
GEOPARK
- Salpausselkä Geopark was awarded the status of a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2022.
- We are proud to be part of Salpausselkä Geopark, promoting the geological and cultural heritage of the area.
- The scenic Kelvenne island and Pulkkilanharju esker in Päijänne National Park and the Paistjärvi nature reserve are important sites in the Salpausselkä Geopark.
CONCRETE ACTIONS
We have invested in an air-source heat pump for every accommodation space.
Charging points for electric cars.
We measure and monitor our environmental efficiency by regularly measuring our water, electricity and energy consumption and the amount of waste generated by our operations.
We minimise food waste by preparing all food ordered based on the number of people to be served.
We grow our own organic beef and oats.
We use only renewable electricity, environmentally friendly products and resource-efficient technology.
Lehmonkärki produces energy for the buildings in its area with its own solar power plant, and the surplus energy is sold to the energy company. In 2023, we have installed numerous new solar panels on the roofs of the villas. The project is based on multi-level energy saving; to reduce heating and electricity usage costs. Thanks to the project, we have managed to save on energy costs. Project grant 30% received from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development 18,679 e.
