We have grown up surrounded by nature, which has created a deep connection to the natural environment around us. At Lehmonkärki, we are privileged to share this connection with our guests — here on the shores of Lake Päijänne, where peace, purity, and a sense of space are an essential part of the experience.

For us, what matters most is not more, faster, or more spectacular, but the responsible use of natural resources, the preservation of traditions, and the mindful appreciation of meaningful moments.

Over the past few years, we have systematically developed our sustainability efforts, as nature and a healthy environment are the foundation of our operations. In recognition of our long-term commitment, Lehmonkärki was awarded the Green Key environmental certificate and the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) label in 2023.

We want to serve as a pioneer of sustainable tourism in our region and be a responsible and trustworthy choice for our guests.

Kesällä 2023 meille myönnettiin Green Key -ympäristösertifikaatti ansiokkaasta vastuullisuustyöstä.

Sertifikaatin kriteeristö sisältää vaatimuksia liittyen ympäristökuormituksen pienentämiseen, sosiaalisten hyötyjen lisäämiseen sekä paikallistalouden tukemiseen.

Olemme sitoutuneet ehkäisemään ja vähentämään toimintamme ympäristövaikutuksia ja työskentelemme aktiivisesti kestävän kehityksen edistämiseksi toimintaamme kehittämällä ja uusia tavoitteita vuosittain asettamalla.

SALPAUSSELKÄ GEOPARK

 

Salpausselkä Geopark was awarded the UNESCO Global Geopark status in 2022.

We are proud to operate as one of the partners of Salpausselkä Geopark, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the region’s unique geological and cultural heritage.

The stunning landscapes of Kelvenne and Pulkkilanharju in Päijänne National Park, as well as the protected area of Paistjärvi, are among the most significant destinations within the Salpausselkä Geopark area.

We are happy to guide our guests in exploring the highlights of Päijänne National Park — whether by cycling along the scenic Pulkkilanharju ridge route or taking a water taxi to the island of Kelvenne.

SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL FINLAND (STF)

 

Lehmonkärki Resort has been awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) label since 2023, reflecting our commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism. In cooperation with Visit Finland, we continuously develop our operations with respect for the environment, local culture, and wellbeing.

The Sustainable Travel Finland label is a recognition of long-term and responsible work in sustainable tourism. At Lehmonkärki Resort, high-quality experiences are combined with Finnish nature and sustainable choices that take both the environment and the local community into consideration.

NEARLY PRODUCTION

 

By using locally produced food, we reduce emissions caused by food transportation and thereby contribute to sustainable development. Locally sourced food requires less energy and water and helps reduce our carbon footprint.

Our region is home to many local farmers and small-scale producers whose delicacies are also served at Lehmonkärki. By purchasing local food, we support regional farmers, small businesses, and food producers, while also strengthening the local economy and employment.

Using local ingredients allows us to offer authentic culinary experiences that reflect the unique flavours and food traditions of the region.

CONCRETE ACTIONS

 
Lehmonkäri Resort’s recent projects that create responsible, environmentally friendly actions.

We use 100% renewable electricity, environmentally friendly products, and resource-efficient technology.

Lehmonkärki Resort produces energy for buildings in its area with its own solar power plant and sells surplus energy to the energy company. In 2023, we have installed numerous new solar panels on the roofs of the villas. The project is based on multi-level energy saving; reducing heating and electricity operating costs.
 
Thanks to the project, we have managed to save on energy costs. 30% project grant received from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development 18,679 €.

We have invested in air-source heat pumps in every accommodation.

During 2025, we installed a total of 12 electric vehicle charging stations with Type 2 connectors throughout the Lehmonkärki Resort area. Charging can be easily started using the EasyPark mobile application.

We regularly measure and monitor our environmental performance, including water, electricity, and energy consumption, as well as the amount of waste generated by our operations.

We cultivate our own organic oats and serve them, among other ways, in our slow-cooked breakfast porridge.

We minimize food waste by preparing meals according to the number of guests ordered.
